Datadog integration without code: events, metrics, logs and monitors

The Datadog integration in nana800 sends events, metrics and logs from any scheme, manages monitors and planned alert silence and lists incidents, with no code. You need an API key from your Datadog organization settings, plus an application key to read data and manage monitors. Every Datadog request costs $0.002, and your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

What you can do

  • Send an event to Datadog when something happens in a scheme: a payment failed, an order was cancelled, a site did not respond
  • Write your own metrics, such as the number of orders or payments, as gauge, count or rate with tags
  • Send log records with a level and a service name, and search logs with a query
  • Get metric values for a period with a Datadog query and pass them into a report
  • Create, update, delete and mute monitors, and get the list of incidents
  • Schedule downtime for maintenance: by tag or for a single monitor
  • Work with any of the nine Datadog sites, including datadoghq.eu and the US government sites

Blocks in the builder

  • Datadog request

    Action · $0.002 per run

Twelve operations to choose from: send an event, metric or log, query metrics, search logs, create, get, update, delete or mute a monitor, get incidents and schedule downtime. The Datadog answer arrives in record or records.

How to set it up

  1. 1

    Get your Datadog keys

In Datadog open Organization Settings. Copy an API key from API Keys, every operation needs it. Create an application key in Application Keys: it is needed to read metrics and logs, for monitors, incidents, downtime and for events through API v2.

  2. 2

Create a scheme and add a trigger

Create a scheme in the builder and add the trigger that gives the reason to act: webhook for requests from your service, time internal for scheduled checks. For the first test the button trigger is enough, it starts the scheme by hand and costs nothing.

  3. 3

    Set up the Datadog block

Add the Datadog block, choose an operation and paste the keys. Pick the site from the address where you open Datadog: for app.datadoghq.eu it is datadoghq.eu. For an event write a title of up to 500 characters, a text and a level: info, warning, error or success.

  4. 4

    Add tags

For events, metrics and logs add comma separated tags in key:value form, for example env:prod, service:web. They let you filter the data from nana800 in Datadog later.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

Turn the scheme on, run it with the button and open the block result: success shows whether Datadog accepted the request, and error_message holds the error text. When everything works, keep the scheme on. While it is on, it costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

One Datadog request costs $0.002: an event, a metric, a log or a monitor action. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month, no card needed. A scheme kept on around the clock for a month spends most of that on scheme hours.

An API key is always required. An application key is needed to read metrics and logs, for monitors, incidents, downtime and for events through API v2. Both are in Datadog under Organization Settings, in API Keys and Application Keys.

The one in the address where you open Datadog: app.datadoghq.com is datadoghq.com, app.datadoghq.eu is datadoghq.eu, us5.datadoghq.com is us5.datadoghq.com. The block offers nine sites. Keys work only on their own site, so check it first on an access error.

Use create_downtime: set a scope such as env:prod, and a start and end as Unix time or a date like 2026-01-01T00:00:00Z. Without a monitor ID every monitor in the scope is muted. Without an end the silence lasts until someone cancels it.

The Datadog block does not start schemes, it only sends requests. To start a scheme on an alert, set up Datadog to send a webhook to the address of the webhook trigger of your scheme. From there you can, for example, forward the alert to Telegram.

No, operations are set up with fields: keys, site, title, value, tags. If a parameter you need is missing, paste a ready request body from the Datadog docs into the custom request JSON field, and it is sent as is.
