Google Sheets integration: append, find and update rows

The Google Sheets integration in nana800 appends, finds, reads and updates rows in your sheet, with no code. Values go into the columns named in the first row of the sheet, so a website lead or a bot message lands in the right place. Each sheet operation costs $0.001, and your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

What you can do

  • Append a row for every website lead, order or message to your bot
  • Find rows by a value in a column, as an exact match or as part of the text, ignoring letter case
  • Update chosen columns in a row by its number and leave the other cells as they are
  • Read up to 1000 rows at a time from any row, skipping empty rows
  • Write values the way you would type them: numbers become numbers, dates become dates, text starting with = becomes a formula
  • Work with any sheet tab and add missing columns on the right automatically

Blocks in the builder

  • Google Sheets rows

    Action · $0.001 per run

Pick one of four operations: append_row adds a row, read_rows reads rows, find_rows looks for rows by a column value, update_row changes the row with a given number. Connects with your Google account or a Google service account.

How to set it up

  1. 1

    Prepare the sheet

Put column names in the first row of the sheet, for example name, phone, email. The block matches values to these names and never overwrites the first row. On an empty sheet it writes the column names itself.

  2. 2

Create a scheme and add a trigger

Create a scheme in the builder and add the trigger that brings the data, for example a webhook for website leads or messages to a Telegram bot. For the first test the button trigger is enough, it starts the scheme by hand.

  3. 3

Give the block access to the sheet

Add the google sheet record block. OAUTH: press the connect button and sign in with a Google account that can open the sheet. SERVICE_ACCOUNT: enable the Google Sheets API in Google Cloud, create a service account, paste its email and the private key from the JSON key file, then share the sheet with that email as an editor.

  4. 4

Set the sheet and the row data

Paste the full sheet address into the spreadsheet ID field. Keep the sheet number at 0 for the first tab on the left. Choose append_row and in the row data put a column name on the left and a value or a trigger field on the right.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

Turn the scheme on, press the button in the button trigger and open the sheet: a new row appears at the bottom. If there is no new row, open the block result: the error_message field holds a hint from Google on what to fix. Once it works, keep the scheme on.

Frequently asked questions

One sheet operation costs $0.001: append, find, read or update. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month, no card needed to start.

In the sheet address in your browser: it is the long string between /d/ and /edit. You do not have to cut it out: the block also accepts the full address.

Google sign-in (OAUTH) takes one button, and the block works on behalf of your account. A service account (SERVICE_ACCOUNT) is a separate robot account: you create it in Google Cloud, enable the Google Sheets API there and add it to the sheet as an editor by its email ending in iam.gserviceaccount.com. It does not depend on your personal sign-in.

First find the row with find_rows, for example by the customer email. The block returns the row number in row_number. Pass it to the next block with update_row, and only the columns you listed change.

With a service account, check two things: the sheet is shared with its email as an editor, and the Google Sheets API is enabled in Google Cloud. With Google sign-in, the connected account must have access to the sheet. The full Google response is in the error_message field of the block.

The read_rows operation returns 1 to 1000 rows, 100 by default, starting from the row you choose. Empty rows are skipped. Search with find_rows also returns at most 1000 matching rows.
