Yandex Metrica for apps: send events to AppMetrica without code

Yandex Metrica for apps, now called AppMetrica, receives events from nana800 through the Yandex Metrica event track block: a payment, a lead or another action that happened on a server rather than inside the app. The event is tied to a user by profile_id or to a device by its AppMetrica ID, and it costs $0.001. This block does not send goals or conversions to a website counter in Yandex Metrica.

What you can do

  • Send an event with a name and JSON parameters to your app in AppMetrica
  • Tie the event to a user by profile_id or to a device by appmetrica_device_id
  • Bring actions from outside the app into analytics: a payment that hit a webhook, a website lead, a bot message
  • Mark the event as part of an active session (foreground) or as a background one, and set the app version
  • See the sending result: whether the request was accepted and the error text if AppMetrica rejected it

Blocks in the builder

  • AppMetrica event

    Action · $0.001 per run

Sends one event through the AppMetrica Post API: name, JSON parameters, user or device, session type and app version. The event time is the moment the block runs.

How to set it up

  1. 1

Find the key and app ID

In AppMetrica, open the settings of your app: they show its numeric ID (application_id) and the Post API key (post_api_key). The key lets anyone upload data to the app, so paste it only into the block field. It is hidden in the run log.

  2. 2

Decide who the event belongs to

The event is tied to a user by profile_id, the ID your app passes to AppMetrica itself, or to a device by appmetrica_device_id from the AppMetrica SDK. One of these IDs has to reach the scheme from your app or server.

  3. 3

    Add a trigger

Create a scheme and add the trigger the event should follow, for example a webhook that your server or payment service calls with payment data and the user ID.

  4. 4

Set up the Yandex Metrica event track block

Paste the key and app ID, insert profile_id or the device ID from the trigger, enter the event name, for example order_paid, and the parameters in JSON. Keep the foreground session type or choose background.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

For a test, add the button trigger, enter the ID of your own test profile, turn the scheme on and press the button. If success_sent is true, AppMetrica accepted the request, otherwise the reason is in error_text. Then keep the scheme on. While it is on, it costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

No. The block sends events only to AppMetrica, the Yandex analytics for mobile apps. It does not touch a website counter, its goals or offline conversions in Yandex Metrica.

Each event costs $0.001. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month, no card needed, and a scheme kept on around the clock spends most of it on hours.

Both are in the app settings in AppMetrica. application_id is the numeric ID of the app, post_api_key is the key for uploading data through the Post API. Keep the key only in the block field. It is hidden in the run log.

profile_id is the user ID your app passes to AppMetrica itself, for example an account number. appmetrica_device_id is the device ID issued by the AppMetrica SDK. Give at least one of them so the event reaches the right user.

The time the block runs: the block sets the current time itself. This block cannot send an event with a past date, so put it right after the trigger that brings the action.

No, every field is filled in the browser. The only thing you need is a profile_id or device ID coming into the scheme, usually sent by your app or server in a request to the scheme webhook.
