Forward email to Telegram from any IMAP mailbox

Email to Telegram forwarding in nana800 works with any mailbox that has IMAP access, including your own company domain. The mailbox is checked once a minute, and for every new email the bot sends a Telegram message with the sender, subject and text. You need the IMAP server address, a login and a password, no code, and your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

What you can automate

  • Get emails with leads and orders that reach your shop or website mailbox as Telegram messages
  • Watch a separate folder, such as Orders, where your mail service files the right emails with its own rules
  • Let only emails from certain senders or with a word in the subject through, using the free condition block
  • Collect emails from several mailboxes in one team group, with one trigger per mailbox
  • Mark an email as read once it has gone to Telegram, so you do not open it twice

How to set it up

  1. 1

    Turn on IMAP access

In your mail settings allow access for mail apps over IMAP. Many services only allow IMAP with an app password, which you create in the security settings of your mail account. Find the IMAP server address in the help pages of the service.

  2. 2

Create a bot and find the chat ID

Create a bot with @BotFather using /newbot and copy the token. Press Start in your bot and get your ID from @getmyid_bot. For a team group, add the bot to it and use the group ID, which starts with -100.

  3. 3

    Add the mail trigger

Create a scheme and add the IMAP incoming email trigger. Enter the server address without http:// and without a port, port 993 with SSL_TLS or 143 with STARTTLS, the login (usually the full email address) and the password. Keep INBOX in the folder field or type the name of your folder.

  4. 4

    Set up the Telegram message

Add the Telegram message send block and paste the token and chat ID. Put the from, subject and snippet fields of the trigger into the text: sender, subject and start of the email. Pick the plain_text format. The full body_text may not fit, because Telegram rejects messages over 4096 characters.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

Turn the scheme on and send a test email to the mailbox. The first check only remembers the emails already in the folder, so old ones do not arrive. The message about a new email comes with the next check. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour.

A run of a Email block costs $0.002-$0.02, a run of a Telegram block costs $0.001. Every month the balance is topped up to $3.50 for free, an enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

Every new email costs three basic block runs: the mail trigger counts as two and the Telegram message as one. 1,000 basic runs cost $1, and checks with no new email are free. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour and only checks the mailbox while it is on, so a scheme kept on around the clock spends most of the free $3.50 a month on scheme hours.

Any service with IMAP access: Yandex Mail, Mail.ru, Timeweb, mail on your own company domain, or Gmail with an app password. The server must be reachable from the internet: internal network addresses such as localhost or 192.168.0.10 are not supported.

The IMAP server address is in the help pages of your mail service and usually starts with imap. The port is almost always 993 with SSL_TLS. The login is usually the full email address, and many services require an app password from the security settings instead of your regular one.

No. The first check only remembers the current emails, and this repeats after you change the server, login or folder. Emails older than three days, for example ones that arrived while the scheme was off, do not start it. If more than 300 emails arrive in a minute, the rest go out in the next checks.

The trigger has no sender filter of its own. You have two options: set up a rule in your mail that moves the right emails to a separate folder and point the trigger at it, or put the free condition block before the message and check that the sender or subject contains a word.

The files themselves are not sent to Telegram. The trigger returns a list of attachments with name, type and size in bytes. You can add this list to the message to see that the email has a file, and open the file in your mailbox.
