WhatsApp notifications: a lead or order hits the webhook and goes out as a message

WhatsApp notifications in nana800 take no code: your site, CRM or shop sends data to a webhook, and the WhatsApp Business block sends it as a message through the official WhatsApp Business Cloud API by Meta. You need an app in Meta for Developers, an access token and the ID of the sending number. Block runs are paid from your nana800 balance, which is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

What you can automate

  • Tell a manager on WhatsApp about a new website lead: the client name, phone and comment
  • Confirm an order to the client with an approved template that carries the order number and total
  • Send the client an invoice, contract or receipt as a document by link with a caption
  • Share the address of a shop or pickup point as a map location
  • Send the client a contact card of their manager that they can save to the phone

How to set it up

  1. 1

Set up WhatsApp in Meta for Developers

Create a Business type app in Meta for Developers and add the WhatsApp product to it. Under WhatsApp - API Setup copy the Temporary access token and the Phone number ID. The temporary token expires soon, so create a system user token for permanent use.

  2. 2

    Add the webhook

A webhook is an address your site or CRM sends data to. Create a scheme and add the webhook trigger. Set method to POST and path to something like /notify. Your site or CRM will send JSON with the phone number and lead data here.

  3. 3

Set up the WhatsApp Business block

Add the WhatsApp Business block with the send_text action. Paste the access token and the sender number ID. Put the phone number from the webhook body into the recipient field and write the message text with the lead fields in it: name, phone, comment.

  4. 4

    Use a template for clients

To message a client first, choose the send_template action. Enter the name of a template approved in WhatsApp Business, the language code such as en_US, and the template parameters as a JSON list if the template has variables.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

A webhook answers only while its scheme is on. Click the API button in the builder, put JSON with your own number on the Try it tab and click Send: the message really goes out. If it does not arrive, open the block result, the reason is in error_message. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour.

Pricing

A run of a Webhook block costs up to $0.001, a run of a WhatsApp block costs $0.002. Every month the balance is topped up to $3.50 for free, an enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

The webhook costs the same as a basic block: $1 per 1,000 requests. A send through the WhatsApp Business block costs twice as much as a basic block. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 every month, but a scheme kept on around the clock spends most of it on hours. Meta charges its own fees for template messages.

No. The block works only through the WhatsApp Business Cloud API: it needs an access token and a number ID from Meta for Developers. The sending number is connected in the Meta dashboard, not through the phone app.

WhatsApp lets a business send free text only to people who wrote to its number in the last 24 hours. Send the first message to a client as an approved template with the send_template action. If WhatsApp rejects a message, the reason is in the error_message field of the block.

Country code first, with no plus sign, brackets, spaces or dashes, for example 15551234567. Ask your site or CRM to send numbers in this form, otherwise WhatsApp will not accept them.

Yes. The send_image, send_video, send_document and send_audio actions take a file by a public https link, and WhatsApp downloads it. Images, videos and documents can have a caption, and documents a file name such as invoice.pdf.

The block counts as successful only when WhatsApp returns a message ID in the message_id field. You can pass it back to the calling service with the free webhook response block. A failed send is not charged.
