WhatsApp Business API without code: messages, files and templates

In nana800 the WhatsApp Business API works without code through one WhatsApp Business block: it sends a text, image, video, document, audio, location, contact card or approved template to a customer number. All you need is an access token and the sender phone number ID from Meta for Developers. Each block run costs $0.002, and your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

  • Share a map location with a place name and address, or a contact card
  • Show a link preview image when the message text contains a link
  • Upload a file up to 100 MB to WhatsApp by link in advance, get a download link for a file ID and delete files

    Action · $0.002 per run

Eleven actions: send a text, image, video, document, audio, location, contact card or template, and upload, fetch or delete files. A message counts as sent only when WhatsApp returns its message ID.

How to set it up

  1. 1

Connect WhatsApp in Meta for Developers

In Meta for Developers create an app of the Business type and add the WhatsApp product to it. On the WhatsApp - API Setup page copy the Temporary access token and the Phone number ID: these are the access token and the ID of the number messages are sent from.

  2. 2

    Get a permanent token

The temporary token is good for tests only. For everyday work open Business Settings - System Users, create a system user and click Generate Token with the whatsapp_business_messaging permission.

  3. 3

Create a scheme and a trigger

Create a scheme in the builder. For website leads add the webhook trigger: pick the POST method, set a path and put the webhook address into your form settings. For the first test the button trigger is enough, it starts the scheme by hand.

  4. 4

Set up the WhatsApp Business block

Add the block, pick an action such as send_template or send_text, and paste the token and the phone number ID. Enter the recipient number with the country code and no plus, for example 79001234567, or insert the phone from the lead. For a template give its name, language and, if it has variables, the parameters as JSON.

  5. 5

Turn the scheme on and test it

Turn the scheme on, press the button in the button trigger and check the recipient phone. If nothing arrived, open the block result: the error_message field holds the reason from WhatsApp. Once it works, keep the scheme on. While it is on, it costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

Each block run costs $0.002. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month, no card needed. A scheme kept on around the clock for a month spends most of that on scheme hours. If WhatsApp charges for messages, Meta bills that in your Meta account, separately from nana800.

Yes, but only with an approved template: pick the send_template action and give the template name and language. Plain text, images and files are delivered to people who wrote to your number within the last 24 hours.

In Meta for Developers: open your app, then WhatsApp - API Setup. It shows the Temporary access token for tests and the Phone number ID. A permanent token is created in Business Settings - System Users with the whatsapp_business_messaging permission.

With the country code and without a plus, brackets, spaces or dashes: 79001234567. If the number comes from a form with a plus or spaces, the block removes them itself.

No. The block only sends messages and works with files. nana800 has no trigger for incoming WhatsApp messages. Schemes start from other events: a lead sent to a webhook, a schedule, a new email.

No. Every action is set up with fields in the browser. A little JSON is needed only for the parameters of a template with variables, and the field hint shows the format.
