HTTP request to any API without code

The HTTP request block in nana800 calls any API without code: you enter the address, method, headers and body, and the server answer flows into the next blocks of your scheme. This is how you connect a service that has no ready block, as long as it has an API and documentation. One successful request costs $0.001, and your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month.

What you can do

  • Connect services that have no ready block: send GET, POST, PUT, PATCH and DELETE requests to any address on the internet
  • Pass an access key in a header, for example Authorization with Bearer and your token
  • Send a JSON body with data from earlier blocks, the block adds the Content-Type: application/json header itself
  • Get the server answer already parsed: status code, body as JSON or text, headers
  • Download files: if the server returns an image, a PDF or an archive, the block saves the file and gives you a link to it
  • Check a website or API on a schedule and send a Telegram alert when the server answers with an error

Blocks in the builder

  • HTTP request

    Action · $0.001 per run

Sends a request to the given address with the chosen method, headers and body. Returns success, the status_code, the body, the headers and the error_message text. Waits up to 60 seconds and accepts answers up to 10 MB.

How to set it up

  1. 1

Find the request in the service documentation

Open the API documentation of the service and note the request address, the method and how the access key is passed. Most often the key goes in the Authorization header with the word Bearer in front of it.

  2. 2

Add the request block to a scheme

Create a scheme in the builder, add the button trigger for testing and add the request block. Enter the full address including https:// and choose the HTTP method.

  3. 3

Fill in the headers and body

In the headers, put the name on the left and the value on the right, for example Authorization and Bearer your_token. For POST, PUT and PATCH a request body field appears: write JSON there and insert data from the trigger or earlier blocks.

  4. 4

Turn the scheme on and check the answer

Turn the scheme on, press the button trigger and open the block result. If the server answered with a 2xx code, success is true and the answer is in body. If something went wrong, error_message holds the code and the error text from the server.

  5. 5

Use the answer and keep the scheme on

Insert fields from body into the next blocks and use the condition block to send the scheme down another branch when the request fails. Replace the button with the trigger you need, such as a webhook or a timer, and keep the scheme on. While it is on, it costs $0.0042 per hour.

Frequently asked questions

One successful request costs $0.001, and a request the server answered with an error is not charged. An enabled scheme costs $0.0042 per hour. Your balance is topped up to $3.50 for free every month, no card needed. A scheme kept on around the clock for a month spends most of that on scheme hours.

In the block headers. Usually it is the Authorization header with Bearer and your token, but the exact header name is in the documentation of the service. Some services take the key right in the address, after the ? sign.

No. Requests to internal addresses such as localhost, 10.x.x.x and 192.168.x.x are blocked. The server must be reachable from the internet, and the address must start with http:// or https://.

The scheme goes on, and the block result has success = false, the status code and the error text. The block waits up to 60 seconds for an answer. GET, PUT and DELETE requests are retried up to two times when the server answers 502, 503 or 504 or the connection drops.

Up to 10 MB. A JSON answer is parsed right away, so its fields can go into the next blocks. If the server returns a file, such as an image or a PDF, the block saves it and returns a link in file_url.

No, but you need to read the API documentation of the service: which address, method and headers it expects. Everything else is filled in with fields in the browser, with no code and no server of your own.
